If you’ve been on social media at all in the last few days, you probably know the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show took place on November 30th. While it won’t air until December 5th, the show is taped and edited several days beforehand to fully maximize the one hour of non-stop commercial airtime Victoria’s Secret receives from CBS.
Though I’m actively trying to avoid spoilers (I’d like to be surprised, at least a little, when I actually sit down to watch the show next week), I couldn’t help but focus in on one particular image when it ran across my Twitter feed.
Notice those gorgeous, lace welt stockings? Surprisingly beautiful for Victoria’s Secret, right? That’s because they’re by La Perla. Specifically, they’re the La Precieuse style, and they’re still available from Luisaviaroma, albeit for $106 per pair – a bit outside of Victoria’s Secret’s typical price point.
It appears that wasn’t the only item from the Italian luxury label on the VSFS runway either. Another model seems to be wearing the La Perla Lady Charisma thigh high stockings, another beautiful lace-topped pair, also available from Luisaviaroma at $135 a pop.
While Victoria’s Secret has used lingerie from other companies before (notably, in the form of custom corsets), this is the first I can recall them using such a conspicuously identifiable product from another mainstream, well-known lingerie label – one with an arguably better reputation besides. I’m sure Victoria’s Secret is hoping no one will notice, but I somehow doubt I’m the only person who immediately saw a bit of La Perla on the VS runway this year.
One consistent complaint about the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show over the years has been that you can never find the nicest pieces in stores. Well, it turns out that’s a little less true this year…so long as you’re willing to shop somewhere other than VS.
